Ariana is a student at the Dakota Wesleyan University where she is president of The Third Freedom chapter. Read on to find out more about Ariana, why she's joining us at MCC2014, and how you can be part of the movement.
In the last year, Ariana's group was able to accomplish many things for its small size. They had a crop walk on campus to increase awareness about hunger and poverty and food drives that helped with the Snack Pack Programs, which feeds kids over the weekends. They were able to raise money to support a child in Africa. Some members from the group attended the annual Universities Fighting World Hunger Summit. In addition, they help feed adults in thier community that are underprivileged. For the future year, they plan to host a statewide dialogue that will bring the state leaders and representatives from universities and colleges across the state to discuss how we can fight hunger in our state. They are also starting plans for a program called campus kitchens that gives the cafeteria's left over food to the community. In addition, they will also be sending a group to Africa to bring livestock to families. The group has certainly grown and will experience much more growth in the following few years!
On why she would like to join MCC2014: "I would be so honored to attend MCC2014 because it has been my lifelong passion to help others. It absolutely breaks my heart to hear of kids dying from malnutrition. I believe this is a 100% stoppable epidemic that can be fixed with enough force and support behind it. This conference means we are one step closer to solving this problem and I would love to be a part of it. I am involved in so many things but this is my true passion I believe God has put me on this earth to be an activist for people who don't have enough food. If you accept this application I know I can spread my undying fire for this detritrimental issue while bringing ideas that my group and I have. This conference gives my hope that I can do more and with all the brilliant people that will be there I know I will have the courage to keep fighting no matter what. I believe the knowledge I will gain will forever help me in my quest to help underprivileged people of all ages."
Ariana, as well as many other student leaders from across the globe, will be joining us this October 10-12th, 2014 at the 6th Annual Millennium Campus Conference.
