Ashwat Giri is a student at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. He is the President of his Nourish International chapter. He will be joining us this October at MCC2014 along with other student leaders from across the globe. Read below to learn more about him and how you can join the movement!
In the last 12 months, the University of Minnesota chapter of Nourish International has grown to 15 committed members. This past year, they raised over $7,000 and sent four students to Cape Coast, Ghana to complete a 6-week project for a non-profit free trade organization called Global Mamas. UMN Nourish's mission is two-fold: 1) to raise awareness about these issues, and 2) to provide a channel for students to take action against them.
On why he wants to attend MCC2014: "I want to attend MCC2014 because I believe it will be a great environment for discussion amongst student leaders about global issues. I hope to gain a greater appreciation for the complexity of these issues, and learn about how students and NGOs can better focus their efforts on designing highly contextualized, sustainable, community-based solutions.
I can offer small slices of wisdom and insight I have gained from leading my chapter and striving to be educated about these issues."
Ashwat, as well as many other student leaders from across the globe, will be joining us this October 10-12th, 2014 at the 6th Annual Millennium Campus Conference. There, they and other students will be exchanging ideas and talking about how to achieve the UN Millennium Goals. in addition, everyone will be able to attend keynote speeches by influential global leaders such as Nicholas Kristof, Dr. Paul Farmer, among others.
