Abigail Mackey is a student in The Ohio State University where she is the international Project Director for Nourish International. Read on to find out a little bit more information about her and why she'll be joining us at MCC2014.
Her chapter was able to raise over $10,000 this past year which went to their partnering NGO, Triple Salto. Right now, students from the chapter are in Ecuador where they are working to construct microgreenhouses and compost wormeries. With a doubling number of members, Abigail's NI chapter is bigger than ever. She believes that she can bring her experience and knowledge in fundraising for international causes, implementing business ventures, planning of international projects, and advocating on issues surrounding global poverty to her peers at the conference.
On why she wants to attend MCC2014 she says: "As someone planning on pursuing a lifelong career in the international development sector, I would benefit highly from attending the MCC. This conference would give me a chance to expand my knowledge on innovative approaches being utilized in the international development community to combat current global issues and crises. I am incredibly passionate about MDG 3 (promoting gender equality and empowering women) and hope to learn more about best practices being employed by different organizations and entities to promote long term sustainable development that enhances female empowerment and gender equity. Attending the MCC would give me the opportunity to meet leaders in the development field and learn from their diverse experiences. This conference would be a great way to frame my perspective on the wider international strategy on poverty reduction. The MCC will also be a great opportunity to connect with and learn from other student leaders with similar interests and passions as mine."
Abigail, as well as many other student leaders from across the globe, will be joining us this October 10-12th, 2014 at the 6th Annual Millennium Campus Conference. There, she and other students will be exchanging ideas and talking about how to achieve the UN Millennium Goals. in addition, everyone will be able to attend keynote speeches by influential people such as Nicholas Kristof, Dr. Paul Farmer, among others.
