Delegate Spotlight: Riley Peick

Riley Peick is a student at Saint Louis University. He is part of the Global Microfinance Brigade, Two Dollar Challenge President, and Vice President for the Community Service DSP Beta Sigma. Keep reading to get to know about this delegate!

Last year, the Global Microfinance Brigades at SLU had their first brigade and Riley was one of the few freshmen selected to go on the trip. He got to see first hand how etreme poverty affected the people and how different of a life he had from them. Inspired, he ran for president of the club and won! Along with planning, he has written a research paper on microfinance, is preparing a keynote speech on microfinance, and is doing more research on the subject and how it can be used as a tool to alleviate extreme poverty in the world.

During his campaign to becoming president for his Global Brigades chapter, he discovered the Two Dollar Challenge, which is a poverty simulation done at campuses across the country where students simulate poverty to get a better sense of what the world's poorest live like every day of their lives. Riley decided to bring this challenge to campus and make people more globally aware of problems that less-developed areas are facing today. In addition to the last two accomplishments, Riley is the community service chair in his fraternity for the fall.

On why he is joining MCC2014: "I would love to be around people that share my passion to alleviate poverty in the world. As an economics major, I feel like I can make such a difference through monetary and fiscal policy in the US to have a huge effect on the other 6 billion people in the world. The millennium challenges' goals have been exciting to see progress. What may have been seem like an unattainable goal is becoming reality and I am excited to see what the leaders at the conference have updates on. I want to share ideas on reducing global poverty and be inspired even more to make the world a better place for everyone to live in!"

Riley, as well as many other student leaders from across the globe, will be joining us this October 10-12th, 2014 at the 6th Annual Millennium Campus Conference. There, they and other students will be exchanging ideas and talking about how to achieve the UN Millennium Goals. in addition, everyone will be able to attend keynote speeches by influential global leaders such as Nicholas KristofDr. Paul Farmer, among others. Apply now!
