Team Spotlight: Claire Shapanka

Today, we invited one of our Summer 2014 Boston interns, Claire, to share a little bit about herself and his MCN story. Read on to find out about part of our team!

My name is Claire Shapanka and I'm from Sudbury, Massachusetts. I am a rising senior at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. I just got back from a semester in Madrid, Spain (which was awesome). I found out about MCN on idealist.org when I was searching for a summer internship and was impressed with everything MCN has achieved, despite being a relatively young organization. I knew I wanted an internship that would prepare me for a future in non-profits and this seemed like the perfect fit!

I have been using a lot of skills I have learned from being Philanthropy Coordinator of my sorority and VP of Lehigh's Microfinance Club. Having experience in event planning and outreach is definitely helpful to what I'm doing now at MCN. Being a part of MDG-driven clubs on campus combined with interning at MCN this summer solidify my passion for contributing to the advancement of global development.

From interning at MCN, I've learned how to use a lot of new programs as well as how to select which platforms would make our work at MCN most efficient. So far this summer, I'm enjoying dealing with vendors and finding out about (what I find) fascinating technology that makes our office work a lot more streamlined. Every day I learn new things from the other MCN interns. I'm very grateful to work with such a great group of people!

Have you met Patricia, Lucas, Mariana, Michaela, or Melanie yet? See their posts herehereherehere, or here. Keep an eye out for spotlights of the rest of our team!
