Laura Ordaz is a student at Slippery Rock University and a member of the End the Thirst Campaign on campus. Read on to find out a little bit more about this inspirational millennial leader and why she will be attending MCC2014.
The End of Thirst campaign was established on the Slippery Rock University campus in Fall 2012. The main focus right now is in Gabon, Africa where Laura has travelled and participated. The campaign uses LifeStraws which are water filtration devices that improve the lives of many in underdeveloped areas where coming across clean, healthy water, is detrimental for water related health issues. So far, more than 70 straws have been shipped to Gabon, Africa.
On why she is attending MCC2014, Laura says: "In January of 2014, I travelled with eight other students and one faculty member to Gabon, Africa to volunteer and talk with the Gabonese people to better understand what types of resources we could help provide to them. We took part in a traveling clinic, spoke with widows, and created connections with orphaned and abandoned children at a home called Hope House. What I experienced was overwhelming and life changing. This inspired me to try and do even more to help people over come challenges of all types. I would like to attend MCC2014 because I want to create connections with other people who are just as interested in changing the world as I am. I want to hear what other great leaders are doing and what steps I can take to enhance the End the Thirst campaign. I am also interested in learning how to become a better leader and possibly offer some skills that I have attained from my own experiences. I hope to share what Slippery Rock has accomplished and what our future goals are for the campaign."
