Team Spotlight: Melanie Demakis

Today, we invited one of our Summer 2014 Boston interns, Melanie, to share a little bit about herself and her MCN story. Read on to find out about part of our team!

I am a senior at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania, but I grew up in Western Massachusetts. I found MCN through looking for internships in the greater Boston area and stumbled upon this one that sounded like exactly what I had been looking for. Since I started as an intern here in mid-May, I have had the chance to work with the amazing MCN team, including my fellow interns and Sam and Abigail.

Throughout the summer I work contacting student organizations, coordinating outreach programs with our team members, and I also act as an international student liaison. I like to hear about all the amazing work students from all over the world are doing in global development as we read MCC2014 delegate applications and converse with past conference attendees.

I’m excited to be a part of the MCN team as we move our focus from the Millennium Development Goals to the post-2015 agenda and see where our generation can do something that matters. This internship allows me to learn more about global development and how any person can do something they are passionate about when you connect with others who have the same interest and desire to make a difference.

After graduating college, I hope to go abroad again and study in a new part of the world. I’m still figuring out what I want to do after that, but for now I’m excited by all the opportunities ahead of me!

Have you met Mariana and Michaela yet? See their posts here and here. Keep an eye out for spotlights of the rest of our team! In the meanwhile, check out short blurbs to get to know them better here. If you are an undergraduate student leader, check out our conference page here to learn more and apply! Melanie and the fellow interns would be more than happy to talk to you should you have any questions. We hope to see you at MCC2014!
