Nourish International joined the Millennium Campus Conference (MCC) as a National Co-Host because we believe that through empowering young leaders with an informed perspective on international development we can make lasting change on some of the world’s most intractable problems. We are honored to serve among leaders in our field, like UNICEF, GlobeMed, Partners in Health, and more at this year’s conference October 10-12, 2014 at Lynn University.

It’s frustrating to see the world change rapidly around us often because of our own human actions. Indicators on issues from extreme poverty and hunger to environmental sustainability still have a long way to go in creating a more economically and socially just world. Our future generation of leaders will need to be committed to advancing the Millennium Development Goals long after 2015. MCC is a nexus of the world’s brightest and most passionate youth leaders. Through this remarkable three-day experience youth will find their voice and become better equipped to make an impact in communities around the globe.

While we’ve made tremendous progress on the Millennium Development Goals, we still live in a world where children die of preventable diseases, communities lack access to health care and clean water, and populations suffer from genocide and discrimination.  Every day, over 24,000 children will die of malnourishment according to UNICEF and over 20 unique species on this will planet go extinct. Experts estimate that the rapid loss of species, due in large part to human activity, lies between 1,000 and 10,000 times higher than the natural extinction rate. There’s a lot more we could be doing and engaging the world’s youth will be crucial to continue to make progress on the issues we face.

The youth I’ve met through past MCC events were informed about these issues and were taking action against them. These young leaders had an overwhelming passion to learn and forge partnerships and were full of ideas and innovations to address today’s challenges. I left the conference inspired and hopeful that we can and will create a better world for the future. Nourish International is honored to be a part of this year’s conference alongside future leaders and to invest in our shared vision of a brighter tomorrow.
