BUILD: India at Tufts University

Tufts University junior, Angad was a Millennium Fellow for the 2013-2014 academic year. Angad advocated forTufts University's BUILD: India an interdisciplinary, student-led program that immerses students in the theory and practice of sustainable development through partnerships with the community of Thottiyapatti, a village in Southern India. The students are currently working with women in Thottiyapatti to form Community Health Clubs - local organizations that seek to raise awareness for relevant community health issues, such as sanitation, hygiene, nutrition, sexual/reproductive health and infectious disease. Through this project, BUILD:India seeks to empower women with increased knowledge of public health issues, improve maternal health, combat infectious disease through education, and ensure environmental sustainability by promoting the use of BUILD-sponsored EcoSan toilets.
